I'm looking for some new updates from people. I read from another thread that you can use your iPhone micro sim in your iPad for data surfing.

I'm wondering if anyone has done this on a regular basis? Will this void any sort of agreement with AT&T that they will take away my unlimited data plan for my iPhone? In theory, it shouldn't right? Since I'm only using the sim card one device at a time.

I'm not sure about AT&T, but no it shouldn't be an issue. As you said you are using one device at a time. Kind of like how if your iphone broke and you used your old phone. I dont see how thats any of their business. But I do know that because its an ipad and iphone thingy. they probably have something in place to not make it as easy as a swap of devices (so they can make you buy another plan). I'm hearing that in order to make it work, you will need to change the APN on the devices or something like that.

Dont take my word as I'm not 100% sure of this. Read more about it and post your results here. I'm curious of how this will work myself.

Thanks
AE

The only thing I'm thinking is that the iPhone unlimited data plan is restricted to smartphones since it would be much easier to consume more data on an iPad compared to an iPhone. It is kind of like unauthorized tethering in the past, I don't know if that was something AT&T cracked down on.

But to answer your question, this is the procedure to use the data plan on from your iPhone micro sim to an iPad.

1. Place the iPhone 4 sim card in the iPad.
2. Go to Settings>>Cellular Data, and change the word "broadband" to "phone."
3. 3G on your iPad

how about the other way?, can i use my unlimited data micro sim from my ipad in an already activated iphone 4. can i use it as a data only iphone?
