iPhone SE. During phone call, when in speaker mode the other party can't hear me. No issue with earphones. I've powered on/off, reset, wiped clean and set up iPhone as new, reset network settings. Do not recall if issue started after using earphones, cleaning lightning port, or with software update, or started randomly.

Could this be hardware issue?

Any advice appreciated.

Is this issue only happening when you are on the speaker? Can they still hear you with the built-in mic during phone calls without using earphones? Can you try taking a video to check it out if your iPhone is getting sounds?

I asked lot questions because the same issue did happened to my iPhone 7 Plus very long time ago. Whenever I try to take a video or during my phone calls the microphone icon was always greying out.

Hi Masso, thanks for responding.

Q: Is this issue only happening when you are on the speaker?
A: Yes only when on speaker is when the person on other end of call can't hear me. It's as if I hit the mute button, which didn't.

Q: Can they still hear you with the built-in mic during phone calls without using earphones? Yes, if I don't use the earphones, and just hold the phone up to ear the other party can her me.

Q: Can you try taking a video to check it out if your iPhone is getting sounds?
A: The video recorded my voice.

I asked lot questions because the same issue did happened to my iPhone 7 Plus very long time ago.

Sort of question: Whenever I try to take a video or during my phone calls the microphone icon was always greying out.
A: The microphone icon, I assume you mean the microphone with slash (the mute button) does not change at all.

Then you are not having any technical issues with your phone, which is good. What kind of reset did you do? Hard or soft reset? If you did soft reset, could you please try to hard reset your phone?

I did (and repeated just now) a power on and off, a reset, and a complete wipe and erase and reset to factory settings. With only the factory settings (no added apps), problem not fixed. Then restored complete data, apps, etc. Phone still acts as if on mute when on speaker.

Record a video again, but this time using the Selfie camera. That forces the iPhone to use the mic up in the receiver slot at the top of the screen - which is the same mic used for speakerphone calls. My guess is, something is up with that mic.

Hi Freakin, thank you for responding. By Selfie Camera you mean hit the "two arrow circle" at bottom right so the iPhone screen shows my face, correct? Unfortunately this type video recorded my voice just fine. If you have any other suggestions I am all ears! thanks again.

Just a note. Found this article force-restart-iphone-se about entering Device Firmware Upgrade (DFU) mode. It's sort of the last chance operation to fix something. Anyhow, I was able to complete the operation, but it did not fix my issue.....
