Will I be charged data roaming expenses if I use my Navigon app from the US to Canada?

For instance. If I'm driving from Seattle USA to Vancouver Canada and I cross the Canadian border and the service provider switches from AT&T to Rogers, will I incur data roaming charges for using the Navigon App.

If I'm in a week in Canada just using GPS with data roaming turned off, do I have to turn it on to be able to use the Navigon App in Canada? I thought that the GPS receiver is different than the phone or wireless receiver for internet.

Navigon isn't like Google Maps; it doesn't use an internet connection to deliver the maps as they are all installed on the iPhone. All it needs is the GPS working which isn't affected by turning data roaming off.

If you had the traffic functionality switched on, and data roaming on, it would (I think) fetch data and therefore cost money.

I have Navigon Europe. Based in the UK, I turned it on after paying for the upgrade and noticed that it was pulling down some irrelevant traffic relating to northern France. At this point the product doesn't provide UK traffic, northern France was the nearest area for which it had traffic data, so this was pointless and potentially wasteful of data charges if I didn't have inclusive data in the UK or was using wifi.
