I'm planning to get an iphone 3g, but i do have a few concerns about the apps.
1)What is meant by third party apps? are they unauthorized apps or the apps from app store?
2)I hear people talking about free cracked apps. What is meant by a cracked app? Suppose I buy an app from the appstore, can I send the file to my friend and let him use it on his iphone? Or does it have to cracked before others can use it?
3)I know that by jailbreaking my iphone, i get to use third paty apps. But if I want to use cracked apps, do I also need to jailbreak my iphone?

Thanks a lot...Not even sure if these questions are appropriate...Anyways, just curious.

So all third party apps are legal?
Cydia is related to jailbreak, and jailbreaking is considered illegal(by apple), so isn't it the same as cracked apps.
Is it really that illegal?? I mean so many people are using cracked apps.
Anyways my biggest question:Suppose I buy an app from the appstore, can I send the ipa file to my friend and let him use it on his iphone? Or does it have to be cracked before others can use it?

So all third party apps are legal?

Nope.

Cydia is related to jailbreak, and jailbreaking is considered illegal(by apple),

Meaningless, since it isn't really illegal.

so isn't it the same as cracked apps.

Incorrect. Cydia is NOT the same as cracking applications.

Is it really that illegal??

There are NOT degrees of illegal. Stealing from a convenience store is just as illegal as child molestation. The sentences are different, but they are BOTH illegal.

I mean so many people are using cracked apps.

No, not really.

Anyways my biggest question:Suppose I buy an app from the appstore, can I send the ipa file to my friend and let him use it on his iphone? Or does it have to be cracked before others can use it?

Nope. It just won't work at all.

the only people who use cracked apps are little kids or people with crappy jobs. so in the end, the jokes on them anyway.

1)What is meant by third party apps? are they unauthorized apps or the apps from app store?

Any app not made by apple are third party apps, whether they are approved or unapproved.

2)I hear people talking about free cracked apps. What is meant by a cracked app? Suppose I buy an app from the appstore, can I send the file to my friend and let him use it on his iphone? Or does it have to cracked before others can use it?

Apps that you download from the app store have copy protection on them, so you can't send the file to your friend and let him use it. Cracked apps are app files from which this copy protection has been removed.

3)I know that by jailbreaking my iphone, i get to use third paty apps. But if I want to use cracked apps, do I also need to jailbreak my iphone?

If you jailbreak, you get to use *unauthorized apps*. As I said above, any app not made by Apple are third party apps, including the ones you get from the app store. As for what you need to do to use cracked apps, it's against the rules of this fourm to talk about that.

Thanks you guys for your replies. I get a sense of it now. I'm just curious and i'm not a big fan of apps, so i'll probably just use some of the free apps provided by appstore.

OP, there are lots & lots of free apps available in the Apple Store. If you do not find what you need, you might have to find a application you have to pay for.
