I have an iPhone 5SE, and an iMac late 2012, normally if I connect them via USB the iPhone shows up as a device in iTunes, and I can then back it up etc. However I tried today and it just does not appear. iMac is running Mojave 10.14.6, iPhone iOS 14.3
it occurred to me that maybe Mojave is not compatible with the latest iOS and just does not “see” the iPhone? What other reason might there be?

Hi,

Thanks, yes I did restart it and tried a different cable, but oddly I just now plugged it in to charge it overnight to the Mac rather than a mains charger, and lo and behold it has synced and backed up!! Must have been finger trouble or a grubby contact?

Could still be a dodgy cable. You might need to clean the lightning port on the iPhone.
