iphone not reading sim card

I have a problem with my 8gb iphone.
when i restored it to original settings then upgraded it to 2.01 it does not recognize the sim card, all other functions are normal, except not reading the sim, can anyone help

Does the SIM work in other phones? Does another sim work in the iPhone?

my sim works with other phones and my iphone will not read any sim,
