I have slight problem. When I plug my iPhone SE (recent version) into my iMac (Catalina) finder no longer sees it.

What happened was I had the Mac in sleep mode with the phone plugged in. I then unplugged the phone without ejecting it in the Finder sidebar. When I woke it up today the Finder was still showing the phone in Locations. Plugged the phone back in and tried ejecting it it wouldn't eject. still showing the SE.

Now I manually removed it from the locations and rebooted the machine thinking that would solve the problem, nothing re-appears when I plug the phone in. System report shows the phone plugged in.

I did this before and managed to get it back again but can't remember what I did. My iPad, iPod touch and my wife's iPhone 7 work as expected and show up in finder.

Looks like when I removed my iPhone from locations in finder it caused the problem. Anybody got any idea how to fix?

What iOS do you have on SE: iOS14 or iOS15 ?
I saw something like that yesterday, but after some time it was back in Finder

SE is on iOS15

I noticed that I can still get it to show up in the sidebar on the Music app and I can go through tp the sync settings through there. Just can't get it to show up on the sidebar of Finder. Maybe some obscure setting on one of the iMac config files.

No guarantee this will work, but I'd try resetting the trust settings between your phone and the computer.

I checked the link against my phone and I don't have "Settings > General > Reset > Reset Location & Privacy". Only "Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone" so I pressed Reset and that gave me the reset Location & Privacy. Reset it, plugged phone in a re-trusted the computer but still nothing in the finder. Thanks anyway worth a try

Looks like it is something on the iMac as I tried the phone in my MacBook Air and it shows up as expected.

If all else fails I could do a restore from a TM backup. But hopefully an easier fix

I'm wondering if it's an issue with Catalina and iOS 15. Is that the os your MBA uses too?

All sorted, Looks like Reset Location & Privacy may have fixed it. I noticed that CDs, DVDs and IOS devices were unchecked in Finder Prefs. Put a tick in the box and all is well. Its not something I missed as other devices were showing up fine but my iPhone wasn't

Great, glad to hear that worked for you.
