hey i just got my nice new iphone and have found trouble putting custom ringtones on. i can succesfully sync 1 ringtone (yes its 29secs long acc format with .m4r ending). In my itunes ringtone folder i can see the 3 ringtones i have put on there so far yet when i go to settings on my iphone only one shows up, not the multiple copies others have experienced. im using itunes 9.0.3 and have iphone 3gs 16gb version 3.1.2

what will that do, as i have made these ringtones myself not downloaded them from the store

well i just totally reinstalled my itunes on advice from apple about another issue (permission when downloading from the itunes store) and have tried to get my ringtones on and still nothing

I have the same problem... I have two custom ringtones that show up in the ringtone section in iTunes, when my iPhone is connected, they appear in iTunes in de right map, but there's only one on my phone... Anyone ideas about this?

i got it all fixed, sorta. the guy at my local appleish store showed me that the best way is to make the ringtone in garage band, share it as a ringtone to itunes and then drag not to the ringtones section of your iphone but to the iphone itself. kinda fiddly but it does work

Forget Garageband. That has nothing to do with the problem.

R U saying that purchased music all syncs? What else have you tried? Deauthorizing and reauthorizing iTunes?

Yeah tried that it doesnt work (Deauthorizing and reauthorizing) I think apple restrict ringtones its either you buy it or just have one ringtone. I might try reinstalling itunes 9.0.2.

Nope, that's not true. All my ringtones (~15) I made myself with iTunes (using the method described all over the internet). I am on 9.0.2.

I tried to restore my iPhone and sync it again and it made it worse because now I could only get 1 song even thou I purchase 3 ringtones from them. I think there something wrong with my iPhone I will contact apple now.

I wont be edit the ringtones because its from the iTunes store

I am not quite sure if that will work? if the files are mp3, wav, acc, it might work but it has to be minimum of 30 sec. and you have to change the files of it m4a to m4r.

I think the best way is to convert it to acc or apple's default music format then change the whole thing,

you can google how to make custom ringtones for iPhone you will know what I mean.

Thanks
After de-authorising my computer in Itunes I can now get more than one ringtone on the phone. Mine is 3gs 3.1.3 5.12.01 baseband.
Also I have everything set to sync manually. In edit/preferences/devices, check the tick box next to: prevent ipods and iphones from syncing automatically.
Click on the iphone icon in the left pane and in the right pane click: manually manage music and videos.
Click the info tab in the right pane and uncheck everything.
When you have created your ringtone and changed the file extension double click on it and it will go into the ringtone section in itunes. Open the ringtone folder in itunes and drag the ringtone over to the iphone icon in the left pane. This worked fine for me so give it a try and see.

Noz.

they don't have to be a minimum of 30 secs.
they can be any length, you just need to convert them all to AAC, and change the file extension from .m4a to .m4r, and, when opened in iTunes, they'll show up on the Ringtones section

OP, do you have iTunes set to manually manage music and videos? Then just drag the ringtone files down

if not, go to the ringtones tab of your iPhone (in iTunes) and make sure all the ringtones are set to sync

Does the ringtone show up in the "Ringtones" sub-section under your iPhone when in iTunes? So you have "iPhone name" then Music, Movies, Tv Shows, Ringtones and the file in there?

My custom ringtone just stopped working, presumably when I updated something. While it shows fine in iTunes and in that "folder" on my iPhone, it doesn't show up in the list on my iPhone in Sounds -> Ringtone for me to select it for use.

Kinda stumped.

click on: store, in itunes and then click on de-autherise and then try re-installing ringtone.

I'm thinking it must have been the recent iPhone OS update. I bought Ringer and used it to re-create the ringtone, all working fine. I know it's of no use to anyone else but anyway!
