I am looking at purchasing an iPhone and have a few questions. I am currently an additional line on a Family Talk plan and it is my understanding to just replace my phone with the iPhone I need to add a $20 a month data plan to my line. I tried calling support at ATT but the representative didn't seem that confident in his answers. Will adding this data plan effect any other phones on my plan or will it affect the international calling I have added to my line? Will I have to sign up for an extended contract (ATT said I would)? Will I just be able to remove the data plan whenever I want (if I stop using the iPhone on that plan?

Thanks!

Features like data can be removed at any time. It will cost you $20 more a month for the data though and I do not believe you will have to extend your contract with ATT. I am not sure how the minutes work though because ATT has certain plans for the iPhone. But I assume that you will just need to pay for the data and keep whatever else you have. I'd try calling ATT again, it really is hit or miss with them in terms of getting a representative who knows what is going on.

We purchased 3 iphones on a Family Talk Plan that was already in affect and the only thing that it affects is the data. Everything else stayed the same. It also did not extend our plan either. When I look online at our contract dates they did not change. You can just remove the data plan or change it either one.
I guess the way AT&T works tho it could be different for others.

Thanks for your help. Another question that I have is that I have an older FamilyTalk Nation 500 plan has anyone activated an iPhone on this plan?

Family Talk Nation Plan

I activated on an older Family Talk Nation 1100 plan. No problems at all - $20 extra for data (actually saved me $40 per month over my old unlimited data connect plan for my Cingular/ATT 8525)
