I purchased an iphone off ebay about 3 weeks ago and I recieved it a week ago. I finally purchased itunes and after I connected the iphone to my comp it went into a screen that I can't get out of. Originally it was fine and I was able to scroll through the phone, but I hadn't put my SIM in immediately because I work for a painting company so I waited about a week till I was done my project to throw my SIM card in.

So basically it's in the 'unlock' screen where you have to slide the cursor to unlock the phone then put in my password. It doesn't let me touch anything on the screen and it just stays as it does. The screen only appears when I plug in the USB to my comp.

I have no idea what's happened and I can't get do anything, its just staying the way it is. I can't touch, or even take off the phone with the 'off/on' button at the top.

I've sent an email to the person who I won the phone off of, yet he is also unsure of what has happened. I was just roaming the net and I found this site and would appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

So what you are basically stating is that the device has lost all touch sensitivity, i.e. the device no longer recognizes a touch gesture from you?

Yes that is exactly it.
I'm from New York, but I'm currently in Toronto for a few months. The phone is unlocked as well.

I didn't purchase Itunes it was a typo. I downloaded it off the net.

a jailbreak phone is one that is hacked so that you can use a NON ATT carrier OR add third part applications, ect. Are you SURE that when you purchased your phone, it was just a straight up iphone, a LOT of e-bay sellers are selling them pre-hacked.

so if you can not do a restore or restart, then your ONLY option would be to bring it into an apple store.. are there any in toronto?

I guess you ignored the advice "do not update or upgrade the iphone firmware", thus restoring phone to locked stage. Fastest way is just to look at local craigslist for iphone unlock service.
