Hi everyone,
Their has been a lot of buzz about the upcoming motorola droid and how it's going to be the next "iPhone killer" And how the next iPhone is going to be 4G, Everything is just speculation.
The Droid in my opinion will be a close competitor of the iPhone only becasue Verizon is so big, The iPhone brought in so many sales for AT&T and I doubt verizon can attract that many costumers just from the Droid.

The droid will not be an iPhone killer just like the samsung instinct, the blackberry storm, Palm Pre, G1, and any other touch screen phone are not.

My question is Does anyone know for a fact or have strong sources as to whether the next iPhone will ever be available on sprint. I have heard rumors of the iPhone possibly coming to sprint because of 4G, but that is at least two years away, although Apple could make an iPhone that is 4G capable to run on wiMax. Could someone clarify as to when AT&T will not be the exclusive seller of the iPhone, if it ever happens, and what are the chances of an iPhone on sprint.

Also if Sprint somehow gets the device, not only will it increase competition on 3 of the largest wireless carriers, but Sprint will have a device that will attract alot, and i mean alot of customers, many of which I am sure will switch from AT&T to get unlimited mobile to mobile, and much better coverage.
Who would switch to sprint from AT&T
for $69.99 you get 450 anytime minutes free weekends and nights starting at 7, unlimited text, web, and mobile to mobile. That beats AT&T especially considering the coverage Sprint has, it's much better than AT&T?

The fact is, it's not happening anytime soon. Verizon's new ad campaign, specifically that it has now shifted from attacking AT&T's Network to Apple's hardware, highlights the likelihood. There is no reason why Sprint would suddenly get it, especially that AT&T's rumored five-year deal is not close to expiring.

Sprint is the least likely of any of the US cell companies to ever get the iPhone.

All carriers except Sprint are planning to converge on LTE as their 4G technology. Its a natural evolution from GSM, AT&T the rest of the world, clearly Apple, and Verizon are going that way. Last I've heard, Sprint is rolling out WiMax.

Little likely for iPhone to be available on Verizon until they roll out LTE, which likely won't really happen until 2011. I'd expect to see an LTE capable iPhone in 2010 or 2011 at the latest.

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE FACTS!

Any "rumors" that iPhone will be on any carrier other than AT&T is just crazy talk. For those that buy into it.... I have a nice bridge I'd like to show you....

1. Verizon just started their "iDoesn't" Campaign. It's a direct blow against Apple. Also, Steve Jobs has a long term memory and has a hard time forgetting stuff like this (read: slamming him or his company)

2. Sprint is not going to get it because of there new 4G technology being deployed. They are putting into work Wi-Max, which is very different from LTE which is AT&T's and Verizon's upgrade path.

If you really would like choice, then brace yourself. The carrier with most chances to even get the iPhone is T-Mobile. They have the same network as AT&T and are priced more competitively.

So, you wish...

Here's all that I wish to contribute to this thread. AT&Ts exclusivity agreement ends in June of 2010, and Apple has shown very little interest in regards to renewing this contract. Extrapolate whatever you wish from this.

Everything we've read about Apple's exclusivity agreement with AT&T is based on hearsay.

There have been no official details released on when it may expire. All we have are rumors and educated guesses.

This thread should be closed. If there is a real concern about this question then use search. Any search from Google to idiots.com would tell you this information, which is nothing other than speculation since the terms of At&t and Apple's contract are not known by anyone outside those organizations.

How many threads a day like this do we need?

Sprint is not ever going to get the iPhone.
And it's useless trying to guess at a date for Verizion.

Not anytime soon.

Wasn't it only back in February or March where Apple was saying that they were quite happy with AT&T and had no plans about ending that relationship?

That's like Jobs saying he was happy with PowerPC chips and would never switch. :)

Anything Apple says about longterm anything, is generally meaningless. Or rather, it's meaningful right up to the moment that they change their minds.

I can't believe that after Verizon's latest ad campaign some people still insist that they'll be carrying the iPhone shortly., THEY WON'T! It would be stupid of Verizon to blow the iPhone if they were working on a deal to get it wouldn't it???

Imagine Verizon's CEO to Steve: "OK, Steve, I'll carry your iPhone in 2010, but since I don't have yet, I am going to direct my ad campaign at mocking its shortcomings"
Steve: - "Sure, go ahead".

Of course it won't happen anytime soon!
