I have tried searching the forums but haven't been able to find an updated answer.

Is there a working sim unlock for a new iphone 3g that will allow for a working phone with t-mobile (given that I won't be able to utilized t-mobiles 3g network)? Is there any advantage of using the 2nd gen over the first gen iphone?

answers or a push in the right directions area greatly appreciated

There is a working sim unlock for the new iPhone 3g. However, it is NOT a software unlock, instead it requires cutting your sim card and adding an extra attachment. (turbosim? I'm not sure what its called). The only advantage you'll have is the GPS tracking.

Since T-Mobile doesn't have the same spectrum for 3G its basically pointless (with no good GPS applications out right now). I would recommend using an iPhone 1st Gen instead. It has a software unlock and is more supported with jb and unlocks (since its BL has been cracked for ages)

^^ Nice summary. They are called TurboSIMs. I tend to agree (battery life is another plus, though). I have an EDGE iPhone on T-Mobile and I am extremely happy with it.
