Hi All,

I am considering upgrading my factory unlocked iPhone 3GS to iPhone OS 4.0 via the developer program. However, in 3.1.3 Tethering is available by default for factory unlocked iPhones. Can somebody with the 4.0 OS confirm the Tethering functionality is still available?

Thanks :)

Hi
I can confirm that on my factory unlocked 3GS that tethering has disappeared while running OS 4.0.
It works perfectly on 3.1.3 as all you do is input the setting manually however this option is not included in this release of OS 4.0

It also disappeared on mine.

Here in Denmark, 6 months is the maximum period the operator can contract you. Afterwards, they offer factory unlocking, free.

But with OS 4.0, thetering is only allowed for the original operator. So i'm back on 3.1.3 :(

Strange because here in Finland on Sonera, the operators unlocked my phone but I was tethering from day one with it.

Yes, but my thetering slide disappeared after updating to 4.0.

Actually, i think thetering works with all apple approved operators - But unfortunately TDC, one of the major operators in Denmark, are left out by Apple :(

Bummer dude. Good thing Sonera HAS to unlock all of our phones (not just iPhones) due to our contract striations. I work for the US gov't. :)

I decided to register with apple to become an iPhone developer in order to be able to test my own Objective-C apps on my device, and be able to use iPhone OS 4.0 as well.

The tethering switch is still there, and it's still working :) So... no worries :D

Whoops... spoke too soon...

I had the tethering switch appear in the settings, but it disappeared as soon as I tried to turn it on.

My tethering button was available, however it disappeared immediately after turning it on and selecting to use USB for thethering... I have tried rebooting and re-syncing with iTunes but it's still gone...

Also note that my iPhone 3GS is a Belgian iPhone which comes without a simlock by default from Apple (hence: factory unlocked); it has not been unlocked by any telco...

I tried 'restoring' again to iPhone OS 4.0 --> no tethering button anymore. I tried 'restoring' to a previous (4.0) backup --> still nothing... I guess it's really gone :S Bummer..
