Hi friends,

Curious - am I the only one on the planet that finds getting photos off of the iPhone (different versions) a real pain in the butt? I'd even go as far as to say it seems purposely complicated.

Having said this, I am aware some people plug the phone into a windows computer and easily copy the photos and videos off. I am not this fortunate. I have on occasion been able to plug the iPhone into the computer and been able to copy *some* of the photos, but never all of them. As a work around, I've purchased a third party piece of software to achieve what seems like a simple goal. I use this same piece of software to help out friends and family who have the same problem of not being able to get their photos & videos off their phones. (I am aware that iOS stores the thumbnails in a database)

In contrast, my friends with Andriod phones look at me like I have two head's when I raise this issue. They plug their phone into the computer and it always "just works" - appearing like a USB drive would.

I'm truly curious about this and would appreciate any input you might have.

Thank you.

As an Android user, I hardly ever plugged my Android to my PC. Google Photos/OneDrive makes that process seamless. Plugging to USB and importing photos manually imo feels more convoluted.

I'd say the same with iPhone with iCloud. If you have iCloud Photos library, all your photos will be accessible via iCloud.com.

Thanks Ian. I don't want to use the cloud though for a number of reasons. Maybe I'm old school and like to manage my own data. I can certainly say that I am not prepared to start paying to put my files up in the cloud when I have loads of disk space available. As well, I have to think that syncing every image up to the cloud must increase data usage considerably. This equals more $$$ of course.

I agree with OP. I just want to get the photos off my iPhone and onto my MacBook Air. From there, I'll dump them to some external hard drive at my leisure. Seems simple, right? Wrong! So far, I'm tearing my hair out trying to make this happen. I feel like Apple made this whole process nearly impossible so you'd buy cloud space from them. Believe it or not, what I'm doing is airdropping batches of photos to my MB Air, then deleting them from my iphone. Silly, dumb, and a complete waste of my precious time. Thanks for nothing Apple.
