so my brother got an iphone the day of the pricedrop [pat on the back]
and he wants to play it in his car
but his current tape deck cable doesnt fit the iphone
so he tried putting it on the dock and using the audio out from the dock
everything clips right
but when we tested it, the music starts playing like 3x faster than normal
they sound like alvin and the chipmunks fast.
i also have an adapter on my car for my current 5g ipod
its the pin connector
it connects perfect with the iphone
but again, the music starts to play at a rediculous speed
WTF?!

Tape deck adapter? What is this, 1997?

Are there any iTrip type things out there that will work and play the music through FM modulation?

we haven't tried the itrip yet but fm transmiter quality is not so great. From my experiance, pin adapter> tape deck> fm transmiter. Its so weird. I understand if it doesn't work at all, but the speed of the music baffles us.

I've got a kit installed on my Jetta, i'll let you know how it works once my iPhone arrives on Monday.

which adapter do you have on your jetta? I have an 02 gti with an adapter I bought from enfig motorsports. I think its a blitzsafe pin adapter that replaces the cd changer part of the head unit

It's not an Enfig... Can't remember the brand off the top of my head. But it too replaces the CD changer option of the head unit.

Hey some of us who like older cars may have cassete players, i for one have a 1996 Range Rover and its fine for me, i dont really want (or have the money for) a new Range Rover and i swear by my tape adapter, its amazing, ive tried fm transmitter things to no avail so dont bash the old school

That's really interesting. Just FYI, there are no FM transmitters for the iPhone yet because there will be a lot of interference. Don't ask me why, I know that people have iPods with FM transmitter with their cell phones sitting right next to them, but that's what I've read.

No my bad i use a cassette adapter with my ipod nano, and ive tried the fm transmitter with that same nano...i havent tried anything with my iphone yet im going to buy that belken extender thing when i get my $100 from Apple

From the sound of it your car adapter doesnt work well with the iphone.
I think theres a few ones out there that work on the iphone without any probs. Not all will work though.

the only problem ive had with my cassette adapter is the recessed jack in the iphone so i cant plug it in lol, thats why im going to invest in that extender thing from belken

Who's using tapes or tape decks nowadays though :D
Everything is CD or MP3 compatible. Imagine if I had to transfer all my music from cd's or mp3 library into tapes. And wait a few minutes to try to fast forward to the next song or trying to skip 3 songs down :D
How much is a CD deck for a car cost anyway? $50-60?
Why bother?

Not my '96 Range Rover but right now i am in the process of saving for a new sound system for my car but a $10 cassette adapter is doing a fine job of tying me over till i can find the $1600 for the system:)

Good luck saving for a sound system getting 14 mpg on premium. My parents have one. Love driving it, but hate filling it up.

Lol thanks, yeah i love the vehicle with a passion..until i pull up to shell or something...i use mid-grade tho..saves me about $.10 every fill up, not much but when you have a car with 14mpg every little bit counts :)

You know, you can get a new CD deck in your car without buying an entirely new car right.

Thats why in my previous post i said i was saving up for one but the casette player is doing fine tying me over till i get one and when you have an old english vehicle a lot of unexpected problems pop up that cost more then they should, I have to fix a fuel pump, change the oil, get a new tire that they dont make for my vehicle model anymore, and fix my driver's seat before i can get into a sound system :)
