How good is the portrait mode on the iphone compared to android phones? I barely take pics but I wanna start taking more. The portrait mode is how good the camera shoots when zoomed in.

My friend has a s7 and he said it sucks compared to iphones so did sammy fix the issue with the 8 and 9 and does it compete now?

The S7 can’t do portrait photos or at lest doesn’t have the hardware to do it.

Both the S9 plus/ note 8 and iPhone 7 Plus/8 Plus/X only take good portrait pics in good lighting.

As for which is the best between Samsung and the iPhone it’s more to do with personal preference. The iPhones pics or more natural looking but Samsung’s pics are more vibrant.

Never used the pixel 2/ 2XL but the Portait mode is supposed to be better than both Samsung and Apple.

The only problem with the Pixel 2 XL one is that it’s left up to hope. With the iPhone, you can see beforehand if it’s going to work. With the Pixel, you take the picture and hope it works out. Sometimes it tries to do it and then just fails.

OnePlus 5 has a pretty good portrait mode too. Pixel 2 series has an excellent one. iPhone has pretty much always turned out well in my experience, but gets iffy in low light.

Samsung is the best in this regard.

You can see what your result will look like in real time.

You can adjust the level of fake bokeh you want with a slider.

It also takes a standard picture at the same time, so you can edit it in post if you so choose.

That being said when the pixel gets it right it is still the best camera available IMO.

You can also edit the amount of blur after the pic has been taken.

They must have changed it since I last used the Note8, because the bokeh effect wasn't great. When it worked it was great to be able to change things, but boy did it not want to work often for me.
