if one preorders do they ship on release day or are they shipped early so one would receive it on release day.

I'm guessing you mean the iPad. right ?

If so then yes. If you pre-order they will ship the same day they go on sale.

Historically, iPhones preordered ARRIVE on release day. But remember, there will be at least 2 iPad "release" days - one with wifi and one with wifi + 3G.

Nope. If history is any guide, if you pre-order, your iPad will ship before launch day and will arrive on launch day. I've pre-ordered many things from Apple from OS X to iPods to my iPhone 3G. That is always how they've done it. Sometimes it ships direct from China, other times from U.S. warehouses, but always arrived same day as the launch.

One other tip: because all pre-orders are scheduled to arrive on launch day Apple automatically upgrades shipping to "next day." So when you get to the shipping options choose the free ground service. If you chose anything else you are ripping yourself off. You will not get your iPad any faster choosing express.

Nice tip. Could you categorically state that this is what has happened every time you've pre ordered and received the device on launch day - you've used the free shipping option but received it on launch day, always ?

Every time - at least a half dozen pre-orders over the last 5-6 years, so lots of data points.

Of course requisite disclaimer: the past is no guarantee of the future (though a worthwhile bet I think, and I will be going free ground for the iPad).

Chupa Chupa is correct. I remember pre-ordering the Snow Leopard. It arrived to me on the launch date.

theres no way to tell...and it was not an ipadinsider.com rumor it was started by AppAdvice.
