Does anyone here think that the price of the iPhone will go down in the coming months like other phones in the market do, or does everyone think it will be a stationary price until they release a new model such as apple does with their iPods, etc. I am considering waiting out a couple months to see if the price goes down, such as happened with the razr, blackberries, etc. But am also thinking Apple will demand it stay at it's price point until a new model is released. What does everyone think?

I wouldn't look for any kind of price reductions until towards the end of the year at the earliest. Depending on sales for 3rd quarter, they may drop the price for the holidays, but I have nothing to base that off of, just my opinion.
You've probably got at least 6-8 months of the iPhone in its current form & price. Maybe an upgrade next January at MacWorld and a slightly lower price. It all depends on how well it sells. With a launch, it's hard to know -- you have to give it a few months. If the thing is still selling like crazy, Apple has no reason to drop the price.
I didnt know apple dropped the prices of older iPods. I am certain they just stop selling them. They have refurbished models... is that what you are referring to?
that is exactly my point, apple never lowers price of a model that is out, they only release a new model with generally the same price and the old models fade out, and sometimes a lower price develops as generations move on (such as if you compare the high end 1st gen ipod $500 to the latest high end 5th gen $350).
But for some reason I think a lot of people think that the iPhone is going to lower in price by a great margin over a short period because it is a cell phone, and that has been the trend with cell phones for over a decade.
I would not think this is the case as it is Apple, and I have never known them to want to lower their prices on anything. But a lot of people I talk to think they can wait a couple months and it will be $300 with a two year contract, such as happened with their previous phones.

I don't think the iPhone is going to see any plummeting prices like many other cell phone especially since it's not subsidized, but then it's just regular phones and feature phones that usually see these drops, with Smartphones and PDA phones being a big more insulated agains such drops.
well, if you were to look now, the iPhone is a feature phone, and they are now also having great deals on some smart phones at a lot of the carriers. I am sure the iPhone is slightly subsidized most likely by around $200. Looking at all the parts is probably costs apple around who knows I am guessing 250 - 350 for the 4gb iPhone, and then as with all their products they would at least double the price, leaving the end price at $700
Apple rarely drops the prices on their products. Only time they do is when the introduce an update or something of that nature. I personally don't believe the iPhone will be subsidized at all. The stated price will probably what it is, whether you buy from AT&T with a contract or from Apple directly without contract. Apple seems to have been pretty straight forward, at least in recent memory. Maybe other posters will prove me wrong on that last statement though. 
No difference in price. Doesn't matter if you are new cust, existing cust, no contract, in contract, student, employee, whatever else you can think of. The price is what it is for every buyer.

Just because it's the same price doesn't mean there's no subsidy. They could still be handing apple $250 for every one of them regardless of who buys it. And I bet they are. No way is an apple product CHEAPER than comparable windows mobile retail prices.
I don't think the deal was designed that way. Granted, I have nothing to support that other than business experiences and assumptions made from reading other news articles in regards to other companies turning down the iPhone sales arrangement. I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T only gets 5% or < of iPhone hardware sales but retains all MRC revenues. That may be where the 2 yr only contract is from.

like many have said, its not like apple to release products and price drop them over time. For example, like their laptop,s as better models come out, there is never a price drop. they just sell through and then offer new model so its not going to be like when on August, the Chocolate for Verizon launched, I paid $450 for it but now with a 2 year, you can get it for $99? and I think the phone itself is priced @ $350 but dont expect by xmas, the price of the iPhone to be a penny less.
What i can see is when the new model comes out in a year or 2, that they offer the new models with new features and so forth for maby now $399 and $499. Just like how the 20GB iPod used to cost $500 but now get a 60GB for $349 is it?

Apple is attempting to change the existing pricing system for phones.
No more subsidies. You pay one way or another anyway. Consumers
will be better served buying their equipment and buying service
seperately. Customer service will have to improve also.

I still think there's a subsidy. If there isn't this product is way underpriced and that's not the apple way. The apple way is premium price tags. No way they'd sell one for less than the real retail price of the blackberry curve ($749) without getting some kind of kickback from AT&T.
I think you guys give apple way too much credit. And you can't buy this separate from service, so I don't know where that comes from. You still gotta sign away 2 years of your life to get one.
