iphone problem

my g/f iphone today started having a major issue. she calls me and i can here her but she can't here me. if i call her she can't here me either. she tried calling her cousin and its the same thing.

the only thing she did was download an app last night called smack talk, where a pic of an animal talks back to you. could that have broken her phone?
 
she can here her texts coming in and other sounds fine just does this on calls.

I've had Smack Talk now more months it's been updated several times never had a issue. One of my favorie apps honestly. Just because I work at A high School things can get stressful and Smack talk has helped ease the tension allot. has she tried a reboot? if that doesn't work try a restore if that fails I go visit the genius. ;) but I am 99.999 that's not smack talk causing your problems. oh is she getting sound from games and is smack talk working.
 
she is at work right now responding to me via texts. she can hear audio in everything else. but can't hear anyone on calls.
 
Text tones and ring tones are played through a separate speaker to what you hear people's voices on the phone on.

If a restore won't fix it, the speaker above the screen is broken and you need to get Apple to swap it out.

Tell her to plug in her head phones a few times. Sometimes it will get stuck thinking that the head phones are in, when they are not. That happened to me a while back. Hope that helps.
 
ok she just told me that when she calls her voice mail she can hear it and use it fine. its just on calls with people she can't hear
 
ok "drew" just told her to try that we'll see if that's it. she mad at me thinking the smack talk app broke her phone lol. cause i told her hey get this app its looks funny. :eek:

"I can here my old voice mail and leave messages but once I added ur call I could not here anything"

she has another phone line with another voicemail box. She called it and heard the automated person and messages. Also I sent her message on iPhone voicemail and she could hear it. But if I call her no luck she can't hear me.

Can other people hear you? Maybe it's a problem with your phone?
 
:D i thought that too at first but no its her phone her cousin called her and same issue.
 
update

when she puts the headphones in. she can hear the caller but the caller then cannot hear her. which is the exact opposite of the problem when she calls someone without the head phones.:eek:

speaker phone doesn't work at all, but it does work for google mobile app voice search.
 
she trying the headphones plugged in and out multiple times , but so far nothing is working. guess when she gets out of work we can try restoring a backup in itunes to see if that works. if not i guess the phone is just broken.:(
 
another update

turned my phone off. had her call me and leave a message. she was able to hear voice mail prompt, and leave message. i turned the phone on and i got her message. clicked call back. she could not hear me on the actual call. though. for some reason she just can't hear phone calls, not on speaker phone or regular phone.
 
yes going to tell her to try restore, but when the iphone is plugged in it makes a backup, does it let you choose an older backup than that to restore?. restore is pretty much all we can do till friday cause the apple store has no reservations opened till tommorow night.

this except blow in the jack. usually indicative of a piece of lint in the jack
 
She is getting a good amount of flak from coworkers Now. Making fun that her hi tech phone can go on the Internet and play music but can't make phone calls. Hopefully the restore works.
 
Final Update

guess what its not the iphones fault at all, its fine.

i did a twitter search iphone nj. lots of people have the same issue in new jersey today. because AT&T 3g is down or crippled. AT&T told us to turn off 3g on the phone. and on edge my g/f and I can once again talk to each other on our iphones

AT&T U SUCK!!!
