I have been trying to get this to work for about 6 hours now and no luck.

I have about 30 apps on my iPhone 3G that I am trying to transfer to my iPhone 3GS, but they are not being copied to iTunes.

I did everything from sync, backup to manually trying to transfer by clicking the drop down menu and going through File > Transfer... The problem looks like they are not writing to iTunes/my computer at all. When I click sync, I can see it in the status bar, but no progress, just goes through the apps quickly.

As well, in my applications folder it is only displaying about 8 apps; and these are ones that I bought a LONG time ago with the 2G iPhone. I'm stumped and don't know what to do. I've tried everything I can think of but appears that for whatever reason, they are just not writing to my computer so I can copy them over.

Please help :(
Ill even compensate by paypal for your time if you need so, I just want to get this resolved ASAP

I'm having the exact same problem, almost word for word! Does anyone have a solution to this?

And addendum: strangely enough, I've discivered that when I re-download the apps, their settings that I had on my previous phone remain in-tact. But downloading over a hundred programs one by one does not sound fun; I'd rather find another solution.

Re-backing up my old phone and restoring that backup to my new one doesn't seem to help either. Who else has experienced this?

Make sure your computer is "Authorized" in iTunes. Under the Store tab select authorize computer.

Bummer... my wife and I both could not sync applications with our old phone. When working with tech support trying to do a restore on our 3GS, they had us authorize the computer and log out and back in to our account in iTunes. This allowed us to sync apps.

Hmm, logging out and logging back into my account hasn't worked either. Thanks for the info though.

normally I'm not a fan of people hijacking my threads, but since we share the same problem (im sure there are others), there has to be a solution.

i made an appt at the apple store at 9:30am on Monday morning; first one they had. once i get some info on what to, ill post here to help everyone who is in the same boat out.

its honestly frustrating because I spent over 6 hours yesterday restoring, backingup, sync'ing, de/re activating, etc. and nothing.

No hijaking intended! I'm just trying to piece this together along with you. I'm still trying things; no luck yet.

Any luck on that? I've tried several more things, but still no luck. I'm completely stumped. If it helps, I did discover a couple more quirks about this problem. It turns out, apps downloaded my new phone will transfer normally. However, apps won't transfer from my old phone even if I try from a different computer authorized to my account. Very frustrating.

sorry for the delayed response, been a LONG day. first Apple genius had no clue what the problem was and called for someone else, and they had no idea. actually tried to send me home and said to uninstall/reinstall iTunes and iPhone OS... not a chance, I was getting a solution in the store.

I had to wait until the "iPhone/iTunes" expert came in around 11am, so now we are going on hour #2... he couldnt figure out what is causing this problem so he goes into the back to call "tech support" to see what they can do. He comes out and tells me that i need to download all the apps through my iPhone, then sync it, but I show him that it doesnt work even doing that.

Now 2.5 hours later one guy comes over and says he thinks he knows what to do... completely wipes the iPhone 3GS and reactivates it from MY computer, not one in the store. He said they have had a few problems over the past few days and just got off the phone with someone this morning with the same problem.

Sad to say, but the only solution is for you to do a complete reset of your iPhone NOT through iTunes. Hold the Power + Home button down for a few minutes and that should do the trick, but CONFIRM online first, I was only watching as three apple employees took charge of my phone and Macbook.

Then you will see on the iPhone to plug into iTunes to activate the phone. Connect to your computer and activate from there. Now go into iTunes on your computer and redownload every app you bought/downloaded. As long as you bought them with the same Apple ID, they are free to redownload again (I had to do this about 50+ times today).

They took both phones and tried a number of things and could not find a solution to why my old iPhone stopped syncing with my computer. After your downloading all the apps, then you can sync with your new phone.

With I had an easy solution, but this looks like it is it for us. Good luck and PM me if you have any questions.
