An iPhone Tip from Steve Jobs

According to Arianna Huffington Steve Jobs told her not to buy the iPhone at the Apple Store...

"Talking to Steve Jobs after his speech, I got a hot tip on how to be one of the first people to score a new iPhone when they go on sale in June. "Don't go to an Apple store," Jobs told me. "It will be a madhouse there. People will be lined up around the block, sleeping on the sidewalk to get one. Go to an AT&T/Cingular store. Most people don't know that they will be selling them too." Uh, they do now, Steve."

interesting tip. there is a cingular store about 10 minutes away from my house, and it's never really very busy. maybe i will try going there first before heading to an apple store...

I was plannnig all along to go to an At&T store to get the iPhone.
To me it just seemed like there would be less people there, but, we'll see.

Hopefully it won't be too mobbed there.

Man if these things aren't easily available I'll be really tempted to hold out for revision two. I mean if it takes a month to get one, why not just wait until they come out with the revised version that has more kinks worked out and bigger capacity?

That's a pretty silly argument. A month is not long enough for Apple to release a revision. I don't know if you seriously believe that, lol. I really don't think it's going to take a month to get one. They're constantly pumping these babies out as we speak I'm sure, and they'll only be continuing to make them after it comes out. It's not like they only make a few every month and you have to wait. Just keep checking your local AT&T store. I really do think buying one at an AT&T store is what I'm going to do. Apple stores will be crazy mobbed. I guess at this point, it's all about who gets their first...

I'll be going straight to the Apple Store since the purchasing experience there is likely to be much better, and I'd rather give them my money. If it means waiting for an hour longer, that's fine. There's plenty of toys at the Apple Store to pass my time with.

That said, if it's a cats'n'dogs kind of mess or if they run out of them altogether, there's an AT&T store one floor up from the Apple store here...

They're only selling iphones at 2000 apple/cingular locations so theres no guarantee that your friendly neighborhood Cingular/AT&T store will even have any iPhones in stock.

Just make sure your local store is important enough to receive iPhones on the launch day. It'd suck for you to miss out on an iPhone because you went to Cingular, and then had to go to the Apple store (later, of course) and not be able to get one.

How do you find out which cingular store is a "corporate" store vs a "franchise" store? I believe only the corporate store's will be getting the Iphone.

good point. it would totally suck if i went there first and they didn't have any, and then also miss getting one at an apple store. once we get official word on a release date, i'll give the store a call to confirm that they're getting some... :)

Sounds like we will have a fairly large notice of when it will go on sale. People cant line up and sleep on the sidewalk to get one if they do not know which day to sleep over...

well you pretty much just blew the tip. but anyways im going to an apple store now seeing that everybody will read this and in turn head to a cingular store.

I'm going to laugh my ice off if a whole pack of iphonidiots camp out all night, just to discover the store is sold out - to store employees and their friends.

All stores will have some in on the day it comes out. It would make no sense for Apple to only give some stores inventory.

I never planned on going to an apple store to begin with, so I'm not sure of how much of a tip this was.

AHduke99,
I hope you're right but the more I read the more I doubt it.
