ok heres the situation. a friend bought an iphone off ebay and whoever sold it to him had a assword that they failed to mention. i know you can put iphones in recovery mode, but what would you do for this type of problem? any help is appreciated. thanks,

p.s. i havnt seen the phone so i havnt tried to simply put it in recovery mode.

You just need to put it in either Recovery or DFU mode then restore it to 2.0.

It will be just like getting a new iPhone!

Yay!

well can i recover it to 1.1.4 if i have the software? were actually going to unlock it.

ok so this is what the screen actually looks like,

is it bricked? could someone explain this to me?

That's far from bricked. It's locked...either the person sold it without restoring it or it's stolen.

Boot it into DFU mode by powering it off and then holding the lock and home buttons for 10 seconds and then releasing the lock button and still holding down home until it pops up in iTunes as in a recovery mode. Restore it from there. All this must be done while the iPhone is plugged in.
