Iphone ringtone maker and updating?

If you ONLY use iphone ringtone maker, do you need to restore your iphone before you can update? I ask this becuase you don't need to run jailbreak in order to use this. And on that note, since jailbreak basically opens up your iphone, is there any way to make it close your phone back up and possibly get by having to fully restore your phone?

I used the iphone ringtone maker to put some ringtones on my iphone.

I updated the phone last night to the lastest software with no issues. The ringtones I added are still there and working .

sweet. I modded my sms bubble color, sms received tone, battery color, carrier logo and had to restore. Although I can't stand the stock sms bubble colors, I can live with them and everything else. However, I need the ringtones and it is good to know that you can use this program without having to restore.

Not a problem here with ringtones installed thru iphone ringtone maker.
Update went in without a restore.
