the specs are not better because it is running windows ce and not os x nor will it's media player ever be able to compete with the ipod interface.

it doesn't look too bad... sucks that they have no originality but it looks like it has a removeable battery

The sad thing is, the specs are better, and it's cheaper.
Some people just don't get it.......

I'll be the first to admit that the iPhone has yet to be released. However, from everything I have read and seen about the iPhone it will offer much more than these knock-off phones. The UI, the tight integration with OS X and the ease of use is something that cannot be duplicated.So.....if you want a knock-off; have at it.

BTW.....my g/f got a Treo with Palm OS last week. Talk about underwhelming!

Most people will see the user interface looking roughly the same, and never see how it differs in operation.

Anyway my point was more regarding the blatant ripping off of Apple's intellectual property, in this case the look and feel, down to the arrangement order of icons and general appearance.

PalmOS is venerable, it's the MacOS9 of PDA operating systems. It's actually a very good task-based interface, it's just that the core OS is even worse than Windows Mobile (hey, it evolved from running on an 8MHz Coldfire with 128KB of memory and then went into limbo)!

Windows Mobile is far superior to Palm OS in every way. It has protected memory, real multi-threading, real processes, etc, etc. Plus, the UI is quicker and more fully-featured. It is a very solid OS.

I use it on the Treo 750, which is a very solid phone.

Yeah.....I see where you are going. Since Apple already has a patent on the iPhone, I'm *assuming* they could send out a cease and desist letter of sorts? I mean, it really is a blatant ripp-off.

As far as Palm OS is concerned, I think the front-end is OK; uninspiring but OK. The problem is stuff isn't very intuitive. I mean, even something as simple as changing the wallpaper required a Google search and I'm a relatively bright guy. Stuff like that should be *really* straightforward. Mp3's....I *still* haven't figured out how to get them to the Treo. Eh....maybe I'm not as bright as I think. LOL

if it was cheap enough, id definetly buy it over the iPhone. I prefer originality, but if i can get a sexy looking media phone like that, at a fraction of the price, id go for it for sure

It does have some features that the iPhone lackas (for now) but the fact of the matter is its still not a Mac, just another windows based gadget. I think I'll stick with Mac, and avoid the headaches I've already dealt with when it comes to Microsoft.

Oh no... these guys must have bought a ton of vegetable paper and spent weeks doing the decal over the iPhone picture on the Apple website, LMAO!

I smell a lawsuit :D

at EUR190 this thing is great!

I suspect the mobile telcos might not be too interested in carrying it, not only because if cannibalizing sales of the more expensive iPhone, but also because of the TV Tuner giving access to free TV instead of forcing people to use UMTS to watch digital TV and sell that as a premium service.

When it comes to mobile phones, I'm an old fashioned kind of guy, I prefer to have a PDA and a laptop for mobile computing and a phone for talking and working as a modem for the other devices..

my ideal "iPhone" would be stripped of the phone bits :D and would just be a large wi-fi/UMTS PDA with Firefox running. Possibly Google will be happier selling that than Apple would :)

Does it have multi-touch? No(and if it does, Apple is will sue)

No iPod support, and not to mention I don't think we've seen a prototype. Engagdet for one doubts we'll ever see this product

That maybe so but the fact that you can get a coder of hacker what ever you like to call it to give it an ipod interface if you like or any interface for that matter is an advantage the iPhone does not have and may not have if Apple does not allow 3rd party software. Plus with WinCE phones you can play any audio or video format you like plus use slingbox. Rumor is this will have a 3mpx camera and video chat camera. Cost $250-450 depending on the size you get it at. Then there is rumor of the 16gig model to come. This is currently one of the best Chinese companies to make audio players. They got 8gig devices that is sold at Walgreens stores so yeah.

I saw this news item today:

http://www.akihabaranews.com/news-13862-MiniOne,+the+telephone+by+Meizu.html

(Meizu MiniOne).

Surely the interface on that phone rips off Apple's iPhone interface? Hell, on their website http://www.meizu.net/blog/user5/26442/cmd.shtml?uid=26442&do=album they directly compare it to show how they've ripped it off. Apple never win Look and Feel cases however.

The sad thing is, the specs are better, and it's cheaper.

i like this one. it actually looks much cooler than then iphone
