IPhone sales/traffic SLOW and 3G in November-CIBC

I observed this last week at my local Apple store and posted here but it seemed my store was the exception at the time but according to the research report from CIBC it is becoming more common:

"Based on our store checks, we believe that demand for the iPhone has seen a significant decline in the past 10 days," analyst Ittai Kidron told clients. "We have noticed decent inventories at stores, and thin demand at best. In fact, most Apple store visitors were not looking at the device and only a very small subset bought it."

Which is what I saw - nobody even looking at the IPhone but buying/looking at Macs like crazy.

Additionally, the CIBC report says that 3G is coming fast. . .like NOVEMBER:

Given the weakness in demand, the analyst said he wouldn't be surprised to see AT&T and Apple step up their marketing efforts around iPhone in the near future. He added that "checks suggest Apple is actually looking to introduce a 3G version of the iPhone for the U.S. market in November, ahead of the holiday season and earlier than currently expected."

If apple is releasing a new iPhone (or just one updated with 3G) we would have seen it already, because the FCC would have leaked the information. Any iPhone release will have to be announced six months beforehand as apple did with the current revision, if apple wants to be the one announcing their product.

I'm breathlessly waiting to hear reports on what the iPhone had for breakfast and whether or not it's going into rehab with LinLo.

What you have here is the result of 24 hour, non-stop news cycles, where everyone is always trying to get a story up over the din of a million bloggers and reporters.

There are no numbers yet other than the 146k/2 day activation figures from AT&T's Q2 report, so people have to make crap up or report things that are anecdotal not scientific.

Nothing to see here, it's nonsense and a waste of everyone's time.

I think the number is more like 60 days because the FCC stuff came out in early may? (or am i incorrect.)

These studies are ridiculous, so when this analyst or researchers walked into a particular or certain Apple stores there weren't people looking at them or buying them. Did they camp out at a good sampling of Apple stores for 2-3 days? If not how does this make any sense?

Also you said you noticed this, but who's not to say that 5 mins after you walked out all of a sudden people starting looking at them and buying them.

The only people who know how they're selling is Apple and the rest are just speculating if you could even call it that.
 
Want to generate more sales again? UPDATE the phone to include all the features it lacked at the launch. MMS, ringtones, disc ability, copy and paste... A lot of people waited a few days to see peoples reactions, and when they saw this phone is lacking some abilities that almost every other phone on the market has, they said "I'll wait."

Update it. Simple solution to more sales.
 
its going to be awhile before there is a new hardware revision of the iphone. My guess is that like the first ipods, it will be a year or two before there is a hardware revision. There will be many software additions though.
 
Our Apple store is packed daily with hordes of people in line just waiting to get a look and demo the iPhone. I was there this morning to pick up my BT headset at 10:30, in the pouring rain, and out of the 7 people that were in the store, 2 bought iPhones.
 
Lower pricing and 3G would have sold the iPhone to a broader market, I believe. But given the price and lack of 3G, I think it's great. A lot of people left their carriers for the iPhone, and other like myself gave up the advanced features of their former phones for it.

Exactly. And I'd like to add that CIBC is a Canadian company (Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce) so perhaps these jokers did their study in a Canadian Apple Store - where the iPhone doesn't exist. ;)

Not if it's being released overseas. You'd have to look up what other countries' FCC type departments require.

Also, even in the US, it's possible to get FCC approval in six weeks, or even get it done faster by special shops and start selling the moment they approve it.

In the case of the iPhone, there was more than a bit of grandstanding involved.

Agreed. 1-2-3 solid updates would do a LOT for adding sales.

It's why a lot aren't jumping at the iPhone, imo.
 
Lets all clap our hands and make a 3G iPhone appear. Sooner that happens, sooner we can all bitch about its battery life and how slow it is compared to high speed broadband.

If only the iPhone was....
 
I agree with those that think sales will pick up once apple releases some updates. I think people are waiting for apple to make the iPhone even more irresistible. If (hopefully when) that happens, people will no longer be able to say "$500-$600 is alot for a phone that needs some updated features".
