my iPhone is a 16gb iPhone 6 Plus and I've used 11.5gb it won't let me store anything else, it says the capacity is 11.7gb why is this if it's 16gb though?

Because iOS is taking up space and a 16 GB iPhone's actual capacity is around 12 GB. I have a 16 GB iPhone 5c that shows capacity as 12.53 GB. My 64 GB iPhone 6+ shows an actual capacity of 55.48 GB.

16GB is the raw size so once it's formatted you lose a bit of space right off the top. Next you have the OS itself which is what takes you to 11.7GB. Beyond that is any apps you have installed, photos, videos, etc, leaving you with what you see as available space.

64GB is a better choice .lol

It's not even really the formatting, just a difference in how the numbers are expressed: gigabytes (GB) vs. gibibytes (GiB) -- http://www.cnet.com/news/gigabytes-vs-gibibytes-class-action-suit-nears-end/

I ran into this problem with my first iPhone. Now, as a matter of policy, I make sure the iPhone I purchase is 32GB minimum. You should also consider cloud storage (Box, Google Drive, etc) to store pics, that way you free up memory. Take a look at what his gobbling up your memory and decide if you need it. (apps like Spotify can be memory hogs). Good luck.
