As far as the beta am I right in thinking that the only real benefit for the SE in beta at least is the new control center? Was thinking of installing it ...
File system, new control center, volume up and down not taking much space are the three biggest things for me.
Is everything in control center accessible via a hard touch? I know the SE lacks 3D Touch and was curious how that worked.
Yeah, everything in control centre that is accessible via 3D Touch on devices that support it works with a long press on Non-3D Touch devices.
Notifications can also be intracted with via a long press on Non-3D Touch devices in iOS 11, instead of having to slide and tap "view" which is great.
Just thinking... if the non-3d touch can use long press, why do we need 3d touch? It seems Apple agreed 3d touch is gimmick feature (I have 6s anyway...).
Exactly my thoughts, but I don't think 3D Touch is a gimmick. It's actually a breakthrough feature, that could change the way we use iPhones. Apple just doesn't seem to know what to do with it in a meaningful way. We don't need a display that is able to recognize pressure for just shortcuts and hidden options in apps. But I'm glad that we have 3D Touch because I love the multitasking gesture that leaves my homebutton basically untouched.
The 3D Touch gesture for entering the app switcher is gone in iOS 11, BTW... At least in this beta. I hope it comes back, but the new animation for entering the app switcher kind of suggests otherwise.
I’m really hoping it comes back. One of my most used gestures in iOS and I miss it so much.
I know. It was one of the very few reasons I'm not running the beta. I pray to god that it's a bug and they'll bring it back again.
The way I see it, non-3D Touch devices have held back Apple from making the technology REALLY fundamentally important within iOS.
Whenever they add a new feature, it has to be designed so that it works on non-3D Touch devices just as well, which means that they could never make anything IMPOSSIBLE without 3D Touch. The long press simulates a 3D press, and it has allowed Apple to make 3D Touch more important within iOS 11, for example by using it in Control Centre. Without the long press, the design would have had to have been completely different just to support older devices. The long press let Apple make 3D Touch more important and less gimmicky without being held back by old devices.
