So today was the first time I listened to a podcast after I'd updated to iOS14 (I went straight to 14.0.1 from ios13).

Several minutes into the podcast, the phone starts rebooting - I thought "this is weird but let's just continue after it reboots". Another 5 minutes into listening, another sudden reboot. Rinse and repeat for my entire workout session. I tested with Music app and same deal - reboot after a few minutes.

Is anyone else experiencing issue on their older model iPhone SE? Thanks!

I also have the old SE and I’m not seeing this problem. Also on iOS 14.0.1

The generic troubleshooting method I’ve seen recommended in the past for things like this is to backup and restore your phone. Apparently some obscure glitches can occur after multiple iOS updates which can be resolved by what is basically a hard reset.

OK I deleted both apps and reinstalled, and so far so good. Hope it stays that way and helps others with the same issue.

An unhappy update:

The issue returned the next day so I did a backup&restore as suggested, but it didn't help at all.

I'm pretty bummed at this point. Am I really the only one experiencing random iPhone SE crashes while playing audio via Podcasts or Music?

If anyone can glean anything interesting from it, here's a recent crash log (with sensitive info redacted):

So I restored the phone "as new", and this is still happening. Un-fricking-believable. I'm never giving Apple another cent.

How do you know the app you are using isn’t the problem? Something goes wrong and you say you never giving Apple another cent.

Not very logical at all.

Umm, because the app I am using is literally made by Apple? Podcasts app, Music app, ring a bell?

In your opening post, you didn’t state it was the stock app hence my reply. So, save your snark for someone else.

Did you file a big report? Does the reboot happen with all podcasts or just the one you have attempted? What other apps have you had running in the background at the same time? You could have a third party app causing the glitch and not even know it.

Yes I did file a bug report and they haven't even acknowledged it (one would expect at least an automated email with a tracking number). Crash happens with any podcast. No other apps running - this is virtually like a new phone (same hardware but the OS is restored "as new", i.e. not from backup).

It has been my experience, that most of the time Apple doesn’t give any feedback with bug reports. For now, it looks like you will need to try a free third party podcast player.

This to me sounds like it could be the battery going bad? Can’t keep enough current under load? What does the battery health look like?

Update: The phone started crashing even during calls and the battery wouldn't charge past 12%. All issues now resolved by replacing the battery. So I assume it was faulty to begin with, and (the added load of) iOS 14 enabled the fault to manisfest, or just pure coincidence.
