iPhone iPhone SE phone app frequently freezes

Is anyone else having problems with the phone app?

In my case, the app frequently freezes. I can open up the app or close it fine, but once it is open I cannot select among the menu at the bottom, nor can I actually dial numbers. Sometimes even killing the app doesn't help, and I have to reboot the phone. This is getting painful.

Is this something that would be solved by going to a different model of iPhone?

It's been working OK. It still does freeze up. Usually this happens after trying to get it to transcribe visual voicemail.

since when does this problem exist? iOS 9, iOS 10? or came only in iOS 12?

The only way to get it working is to reboot. But it doesn't prevent it from happening again at some point.

I can't remember since when, may be since iOS 12.
