My son managed to leave his iPhone SE in a back pocket when putting his trousers through a wash. The result was, as expected, a water damaged phone. I, as his very aged parent, acquired the phone and, out of intellectual curiosity, proceeded to dismantle the phone with the thought of replacing relevant parts from a yet to be purchased damaged phone. My question is this: can I use the logic board from a non water-damaged phone if it is possibly iCloud locked? A second question is: Whilst I have replaced the defunct battery with a new one, the screen is dead but the flashlight is on all the time and is yellow. Does this have a specific significance apart from showing it is a lost cause?

If you try and use a logic board from an iCloud locked phone you will still have a useless phone. A used SE will cost you less than messing with the damaged phone you already have

Hi,
Thank you very much for your prompt reply.
As a retired person, I have the time to go 'messing' with the damaged phone but I realise there are limits to the effort and cost needed to resurrect the phone. Since I already have an acceptable phone and I don't need the extra 'benefits' that an iPhone can afford me, I am content to investigate the possibilities of repairing the phone for a modest price. I just need to be aware that the yet-to-be purchased damaged phone will be adequate for the task. Again, thank you for your comments.

It’s a lost cause because you would spend more money fixing it than buying a refurbished unit. Without the skills to inspect the logic board and replace individual components, you would need to replace the entire logic board. The display would need to be replaced as well. Even the connectors would need to be inspected for corrosion.

Many thanks for your reply - and interest. Fortunately, it was not my phone which was wrecked so I can take a lighter view of it. Of course, you are right. The time taken to find a suitable cheap replacement and hope that some of the original parts would be an acceptable fit does not warrant the effort involved.
To misquote Julius Caesar, I came, I saw and ... I abandoned the project
Again, many thanks.
