Quick question here. I dropped my xs max in the lake this weekend. Last time I did a backup i think was while running a slightly older version of ios 14. Is there anyway I can setup the new max with that backup if the new max is on a newer version of ios14?

Yes of course you can. The backup does not contain the version of iOS (system files and so on) just your app data and configuration.

No problem at all restoring to a newer version of ios. What you can't do is restore to an older version.
