After my mother spilled water on her iPhone 2G, she ordered a refurbished iPhone 3G off of NewEgg.
It arrived yesterday. I pulled it out of the box, expecting to have to activate, jailbreak, and unlock it.
I turned it on...and it went straight to the "No SIM Inserted" screen. I swiped to unlock, and it came right up to the normal Home screen.
I was rather surprised.
Does this mean that NewEgg jailbroke and activated it, or is it unlocked in hardware? In other words, what I'm asking is; can I run updates from Apple, or are they going to break it?
(A coworker of mine obtained an iPhone from overseas that is unlocked and can update from Apple without issues as it is not jailbroken, so I'm trying to figure out if my mother has something similar now, or if it'll be re-locked if she updates)
