So, Apple look set to release an iPhone SMS patch on Saturday. See this other thread.

Here we can discuss what this means for jailbroken phones. What form will the patch take; is it a small file or a full new OS (e.g. 3.0.1)? If it's a full OS then we would probably lose the jailbroken status, although this might seem like a small price to pay in the face of such a massive security hole.

Also, what would the patch change? If it's the mobile baseband that is vulnerable then a patch to that might prevent current unlocking methods like ultrasn0w from working, and might even prevent any unlocking in the future. Is not updating worth the security risk?

I'd love to hear people's thoughts on this and particularly if anyone has any further info on the patch/update itself.

Also, say the "patch" is a full updated OS like 3.0.1. This might include some other as yet unannounced updates that might prevent jailbreaks like redsn0w and purplera1n from working in the future. Normal practice would be to wait for the relevant hax guys to issue some info on the update, but this takes time, and every second we wait our phones are vulnerable to this SMS flaw, which seems pretty serious (I can't see through the FUD if that's what it is). I'll have to think long and hard when this patch is released whether I should apply it.

Damm it what should i do i only have my 3gs a week and
of course i jailbroke! purplera1n rc2.
Will i wait? if i did i'd still be very worried about this sms flaw
pls can someone shed a bit of light as i am lost:confused:

Cheers.
