Is it just me or even with the speakerphone on LOUD as possible that it sounds like its barely on. The speaker works fine for the iPod portion of the iPhone but I really hope I dont have a blown speaker.

I have the same problem. Some users have reported that resorting the iPhone through itunes corrects the problem, but I tried this and had no luck.

Both iPhones I have used have very low speaker volume, both on the bottom and top. However, music and movies seem to be much louder. Hopefully this is fixable through a software update.

All of the volumes on the iPhone are too low: speakerphone, handset volume, ringer volume and SMS/Email Notification volume. It's not the hardware, and I find it incredible that Apple could have released the iPhone with such an obvious software bug. I can't imagine that anyone at Apple testing the phone and taking it out in public before the release would not have obviously noticed that the volume is set grossly low.

Apple needs to fix this ASAP. All we can do is hope and wait.

Are you folks calling Apple Care and letting them know that this needs fixing?

Agree 100%. Speakerphone, ringer and handset volume all way too low. Returning today before 14 days gone. Wish I did not have to, but can't gamble on when or if Apple will fix it. It is basically a brick if I can't hear it.

Mine is suffering just the same. Basically, it's just a really cool iPod at this point. It's pretty much useless as a phone.

I received a call yesterday while going down the road. I had to ask the caller to hold while I rolled up all of the windows and turned the radio off. On my Treo this was never an issue and never caused any problems with callers hearing the background noise. Asking a business client to hold immediately when they call is very annoying to them and me.

Mine will also go back before the 14 days if this problem is not solved prior to then.

Cool iPod. Terrible phone at this point.

The most productive thing all of us can do about this problem to report this as a bug to apple. This is easy to do. Go to: http://www.apple.com/feedback and then select the iphone and fill out the bug information and submit. They will pay attention if enough people complain. Also, while you are at it complain about the handset volume which is also too low.
