Hi guys n girls,

Haven't been on the forums for a while now, so don't flame me if I've missed a trick, but I jsut went to the Apple store on Regent Street, and I'm showing my pal the new iMac (one more for the cause ;) ), and I look behind me at this Mac Genius showing this guy another iMac, and low and behold, he's got an iPhone and he's demoing it to this guy!!!?!? I couldn't take my eyes off the thing, the videos of it are one thing, but up close in the flesh, I just can't believe it, it was absolutley amazing. The OS was so smooth and responsive as was the touch-screen, the size was perfect, the typing seemed easy as pie. The mac guy was typing with two thumbs and very quickly. I'm absolutley sold!

Just thought I'd throw that out there, plus I'm relaunching myself to MR in a sense, due to the soon-to-arrive MBP 2.4GHz I'm waiting for.

Cheers

Don't suppose you managed to see what carrier was showing in the top-left?

I've heard that they have a 'non phone enabled' version there, which would mean no carrier, but worth a shot.

People may want to check this out.

I was searching the internet for iphone news in the UK! and i found this 'leaked' picture! tell me what you think!

I didn't unfortunately, I wasn't looking at that tbh, he showed us how to dial someone, but never let it ring, so I don't know if it was even connected to a network. I just hope this is a sign that Apple are getting them out here, I haven't upgraded my phone yet just waiting for this...

Cheers

There's a guy at our local apple reseller here in South Africa who bought one in the States and is just using the iPod/wifi features:)

Holy **** that thing is beautiful:eek:

He says he'll let me play around with it tomorrow:)

iPhone in the UK - Me too!

Hi, I read this with interest as I was able to get my hands on an iPhone in the UK as well - see post here:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/341689/

That is quite interesting that an Apple staff member was publicly demonstrating. There is only one store in the UK (Computer Warehouse) that claims to have one on display for customers to try. Hopefully we shall find out more soon...

I was in the UK from August 3rd thru the 10th on vacation. In the upper left corner it said O2UK so that's a clue. I sent 5 text messages, and made one phone call. Everything worked fine. I didn't surf the net and my e-mail account was off. I used .1 MB of data.

I was at the bluewater store and I was talking to one of the staff about the iPhone and she said they had a guy in the over week from the states with an iPhone asking the Geniuses about the data speed he was getting in the UK, ofcourse they didn't know nothing, I was going to ask what network it was on but I was busy helping my mum pick out which mac she wants.

similar thing here, someone walking out of the Apple Store in the employees 'uniform' messing with a iPhone. And I was also trying to get my mum to get a iMac:D

are you saying your iphone (under contract with att in the US) works in the uk? and the att logo switches to o2uk ?

Yeah, some girl who was with a friend of mine was in the pub a few weeks back had an iPhone. I had a good go on the maps and tried out steves fancy starbucks bit. Safari worked like a dream. I thought it said AT&T in the top left corner but I could be mistaken. Oh, and if it did actually say O2uk I don't reckon that would mean anything. When abroad, phones just roam until they find a network they like.

That could have been me, I was in the Regent's Street store on Friday last week and one of the Apple guys showed me an iPhone, and let me play with it. Wasn't on any network, just using wireless in the store (and slowly, which he put down to the number of people using Facebook and Gumtree in the Internet Cafe that is the Apple store.

It would work in the UK and anywhere else. The logo would switch to whichever network it had connected to. This is what happens with international roaming on mobile phones. The fact that it happened to be O2 is of no significance in relation to which network in the UK will get the iPhone.

indeed

I can confirm that there is an iphone on display and available for demo in New Street, just opposite Liverpool Street Station in the City.
I'm going at lunch time, I can't wait !!
