Hi,

I think the iphone is very cool device. The interface is slick and appears to be very well thought out. I am not an apple user but do like the products and most of the interfaces of apples devices.

I have used touch screen phones before and they all get smudges, smears, fingerprints etc. on them. I dont want to have to carry a cloth to wipe off the screen after every use.

How is the surface of the iPhone different then these devices? Does it smear etc. like the rest of them? Does the iPhone have a surface that is more resistant to these things?

This is not a bash (my dash gets smears when i talk on it sicne it rests on my cheek). I ma just curious how apple has gone about it.

Thanks

It does smear, but the glass seems to wipe off pretty easy with a tshirt.

The display is so sharp and bright that the smudges are virtually irrelevant. Small thin text will look very slightly blurred if the screen is smudged. I'll never go back to another style of handheld. This thing is awesome.

A cloth comes with it. But I have not removed its plastic cover. I'm still in my honeymoon stage with it :)

Also, my Cingular 8525's screen had smudges and collected dirt/dust. I had to constantly clean it -- no biggie. I think anything with a sizable screen will have to be cleaned regularly: Case fibers, occasional use of your finger instead of your stylus, natural dust collection, liquid splatters, etc.

Fortunately, given how indestructable the glass screen has been described by numerous reports, I'd say even just a tshirt would do the job!

I use any lint free soft cloth, tshirt is fine, as long as it doesn't have sun tan lotion or any oils which smear. The phone seems to be extremely durable.
i have already ditched my holster and am carrying it in my pocket. It is so nice to handle it without the case.

LOL, I didn't even know the phone came with a cloth until I looked at this thread! Sure enough, I dug through the small box that contained the paperwork and Apple stickers, and buried under those is a black cloth! It does work pretty well for wiping off the screen. My cloth was not in a plastic cover.

The smudges have not bothered me. You really only see them when the screen is off.

Yeah, I am not bothering with a case except when I am out mountain biking and I then use a leather case that completely encloses the phone. Normally I just leave the phone in a pocket with no keys or change (same as I've done with phones for years). Even if the case gets a little scratched, I don't care as long as the phone continues to work. :)

Yeah one of the most amazing things of the screen is that it does not show the prints and smudges.

If you get it at an angle and the right light or take a picture of it, yeah plenty. When actually using it, you don't see it at all. I wiped my screen down like 1 hour after I bought it and have not done so since.

It is like Magic!

You got my chuckle for the day...
I believe he meant the plastic cover on the phone. The cloth was just in the box of documentation.
I didn't find mine until I started reading posts that made reference to "cloths" either.
