iPhone switches to "iPhone" from "Speaker" on its own

I have an iPHone 5s running the latest version of ios8.

What happens is that if I get a phone call and I put that call on the iphone's speaker phone (hands free), after about 30 minutes (not sure exactly how long), the audio reverts back to the iphone and I can no longer hear the person talking. I then have to "realize" that the phone has gotten quiet all of a sudden and put it back on the speaker, apologize to the person I'm speaking with and, unfortunately, wait for it to happen .... again. If you're typing on the computer while talking to somebody who is also working with you, you both may be quiet at times (typing, thinking,....) making this problem really annoying.

The iphone is switching from speaker back to the phone on its own is clearly NOT what I want (that's why I selected SPEAKER in the first place). There's no indication, other than silence on the phone that this switch has happened.

This "auto-switch" has now happened so many times, I'm posting this message to see if others have had the same problem and what, if any, the workaround is.

Sounds like a hardware issue.
Did you get it wet at any point?
You could also try a restore and setup as new to see if that makes any difference.
