iPhone takes hours to turn on...

This morning I turned off my iPhone because it froze when opening Settings.

Then I turned it on again, the Apple logo came up, and hasn't moved for an hour!

This is the second time it's happened to me, and I can't remember what I did the first time.

Please help! It's so frustrating not having a phone!

Do a restore. Push the home button while you plugged in the computer, and the itune will ask you to restore.

Afterwards, try to remove all your iphone apps and resync them back from itune. delete those big apps will help.

I can't - My computer crashed and I no longer have it.
I'm using a friend's computer at the moment. It doesn't have iTunes and my usb cord is at my house.

You're most likely out of luck then; you'll need to take it to an Apple store. Your iPhone is stuck in recovery mode. You need to turn off your phone, then connect to your computer with iTunes running, and turn it back on while holding the Home button. iTunes will detect that your phone is in recovery mode, and you'll see "recovery mode" displayed on your iPhone's screen. From there you're looking at an hour or two while it reformats the memory on the phone, reloads the operating system software, etc. Then it will prompt you to do a "restore". It's a PIA, but a regular occurrence on the iPhone 3G. This is one buggy device.

Note: you might have to go through the on and off process a few times just to get iTunes to recognize the phone as being in recovery mode. It's not a very reliable process.
