ok I have heard of this textnow app. sounds like a great idea.

now for the question. if i have converted my friends to text me at my new "address" and i have a rogue text that goes to my number after i have cancelled the text plan do i get charged for this text? if so how much would it be?

Depends on your plan
You will be charged for each text whatever that rate is
You should be able to log into your account and see what text charges are

there is no way to stop is completely from the number?

that just sucks is that is the case. especially if you have no control over who actually texts you. ie. solicitor.

Yup. You'll be charged 10 cents per message. What I did was have AT&T block text messages to my number. With textnow, you can hook it up with your google voice number so your friends can call or text to that number. It saves me a good 20 bucks a month. I am super happy with textnow.
