I came across these pictures on the net posted by a poor poor guy who just happened to drop his phone. What sad pics knowing that if he would have just bought a case for the phone in the first place, this would have never happened.

... and if these are the same pictures that came out earlier this week, this iPhone's glass front hit the edge of a table/counter on its way down.

Uh, how do you know it wouldn't have happened with a case? The case doesn't do much to tone down the impact (unless it's thick at rubber), rather it stops scratches. The iPhone has shown to be quite resilient against scratches, so a case is pretty much useless. This is the result of a heavy impact, something a case could not have protected it from.

Plus the case looks hideous, and give the iPhone an annoying feel in your hand.

I can ALMOST say for sure that this was NOT caused by a drop. Its looks like an impact. A drop would not have caused that. Even if the phone fell on something, it would have deflected. These screens are hard to break and scratch.

As for a case, yes, they can help. It depends on the case. Silicon ones are a joke. The leather type are beefier and will absorb the fall better.

just a note, when i posted the little story about how it happened, i wasn't 100% sure if the guy dropped it or hit it on something, but with further viewing, it looks like he could have hit in on the corner of something.

Well the truth is i dont know that a case would have prevented the gicantic cracks in the phone, what i do know is that the phone probably would have had a better chance with one on it. Im not sure what kind of cases youve been looking at, but ive seen some really nice looking cases that only compliment the iphone. So, an annoying feel in my hand, or 5-600 phone with shattered screen....i choose the annoying feel.
