I picked up my iPhone a bit ago and it was way warm to the touch and the battery warning message said it was down to 10%. This is really odd considering that I had 75% about 5 hours ago.

Under usage stats under settings:

Usage: 8 hours 2 min
Standby: 1 day 5 hrs.
Call time: 11 hrs 40 min.
Lifetime: 11 hrs. 40 min.

There is no way that I used it for 8 hours in the last 24 hours. Maybe 3 hours tops, with only music (maybe 1 1/2 hours and no video, 1 5-minute phone call, 5 text messages, 10 emails (via Yahoo push).

Why would the call time and lifetime usage be the same? Are there any applications that can contribute to usage time (thus create heat and drain CPU) when you aren't using the phone? My old Treo would do this when I left it on the demo screen of the older version of Bejeweled. It would appear off, but would drain the battery within hours.

Any help would be appreciated!

make sure email autocheck is off

also, if you were last on a webpage and clicked in a text box to type, and close mobile safari, iphone will keep safari and wifi on, using battery and making loads of heat...

Thanks for your quick help! I wasn't in a text box, but I had left it in edit mode on mockdock.com. I got out of edit mode and it seemed to fix it. I'm amazed that more people aren't running into this problem! The biggest indicator (besides being hot) was the usage stats being way out of reasonable.

Thanks again, Philgilder!
