i was wondering if there was any possibility for the authorities/police to track my iphone, when it's turned into airplane-mode.

i know that if the phone is on in a normal status, it is easy to be located through the celluar-network.
and i read a few months ago, that on symbian phones there is the possibility to install software/hacks that even when the phone seems turned off, it can work as a microphone and easely be located.

to summarize: how secure is the "airplane"-mode when i don't want to be tracked at all? should i rather turn it off? do i need to take ou the SIM?

thank you

ahh, evading the police young one? very difficult pathway to choose. Why may I ask?

lmao, no idea..but seriously, you doing something illegal?

What are you going to do, rob a bank? :)

I think your safe in airplane mode.

I'm guessing you're pretty safe even with airplane mode turned off, unless you're a reputed crime lord.

i was wondering this too... and not for criminal reasons, for the reason that this crazy person (not going to mention who this may be) has found someone from rogers who gave him my phone information and he has been able to track me almost to my exact location, the only problem is i was in an apartment so he couldnt figure out which apartment number i was living in... i have tried calling rogers and telling them this is not ok with me, they say they have no clue what i am talking about. i know 100% how this person found me cause he told me. now i am moving and do not want him knowing where i live. i love my iphone and dont want to get ride of it so i was wondering if when i go home could i put it in airplane mode and not be found? or should i just get rid of my phone and go with another phone provider? ahhhh so stressful. someone please give me some advice!!

I think a restraining order against them is in order.

I think this person just fed you with a bunch of BS to scare you. Maybe he found were you were thru other means.
A phone operator will not help anyone track you unless they have a valid court order and they are the Police.

+1 to that. The mind games people play. If you want to really be sure, just in case they somehow put software on your phone to track it (which I doubt), you can restore your phone as new. End of story.

Of course what the OP is saying is quite possible.

If someone is willing to lose their job over it, they could get that information.

How do you think picture messages get leaked? Your "privacy" only goes so far on the servers of mobile providers.

As long as Jack Bauer isn't tracking you, you should be fine with Airplane Mode on.
;)

I doubt any Rogers or any regural carriers rep has those features available without authorization by higher access management staff.

i believe the person who worked at rogers is friends with this guy... i called rogers today and they are going to investigate it and see if they can find who it was who gave him my information... i am 98% positive it was some one from rogers. there is no other way this person could have found out both my cell numbers plus where i live... apparently they can put pass codes on your account now so hopefully that will work, the guy at rogers said its impossible for a rogers employee to find out the pass code with out you telling it to them. has anyone heard of this?

as for the person who suggested a restraining order, those dont really do ****... ppl like to believe they do but they dont.... all i want is for rogers not to give out my damn information to ppl. im supposed to be able to trust them with my info.

They actually do in the US.
You can put them in jail if they try to contact you. Not sure how things work up North in Canada.

Ha, you'd be surprised. I've seen more information than I should be privy too thanks to a friend who works at a carrier.

Thing is, all that access is typically tracked and kept record of who has accessed the account. So whomever has helped will have their "fingerprints" on the OP's account. The question is how willing is Rogers to listen to the OP and begin an investigation?
