I have an old iPhone 6s that I would like to get rid of as it is no longer used anymore. On Apples website, they say that they will give my $50 for it. It appears that you don’t have to purchase a new device but you can just send it to them and get a gift card. Can someone provide me with more information on how this process works? Also with the gift card, isn’t it just an Apple Gift Card and now that the gift cards include all their services, you could use the gift card to pay for iTunes, Apple Music, etc. thanks.

Yes, you get a Apple gift card that can be used for store purchase etc. If you send in, you may get less than $50. If your local store is open, you would do better to do the trade-in in person and have a better chance at getting the $50 dollars. The service Apple uses tries to scam people out of the quoted price all the time.
