I plan on getting an iPhone 3GS on the AT&T website. I will have 30 days to try it and decide if I want to keep it. My main concern is phone reception. My home area has 3G coverage and my main phone usage will be in 'best' areas as shown on the coverage map. What should my general expectations be in the 'best' and 'good' phone coverage areas? Please relate your experience.

If my home and primary work place has good phone performance I will keep the iPhone, if not I will return it. If I keep it can I then port over my long time cell phone number from my current provider? My billing account address from my current provider will be the same as my AT&T billing account address.

Thanks.

You can port in a number anytime you want. I suggest though you port in your number on day one and force yourself to use the iPhone to see if you really like it and AT&T's service. You can easily port your number back to your current carrier before your 30 days are up.

What I did was forward my old phone to my new temporary number to test mine out.

Once I tested it to my liking, I went to the corporate store and they did the port right there on the spot for me, it was completed before I left the door :D
