Dear all,

I currently live in the Uk and i was interested in getting the iphone 3GS on prepay i currently have a o2 simplicity contract sim.

First of all is it worth buying it now, and it seems only with apple and technology that something else might come out next year.

Thats the first above query the second query i did have was.

Could i buy the iphone in my uncle's name as he has a shop and i do work there and could he claim the VAT back as i'll be using the handset for business purposes not pleasure!

I did ring up Apple they did tell me that indeed yes this is possible and it shouldn't really be a big issue.

Also if he does buy the handset can i ensure the phone and warranty is registered in my name and not his, the phone will merely be going to his address that's all.

Also how much would i save in terms of VAT reduction, how would it be claimed back i presume it would be in the next tax year which is (April 2010).

Look forward to your response,

Regards,

Your uncle should buy the phone in the name of his business. He won't pay less - still £538 - but will be able to reclaim the VAT of £70 on his next VAT return. ie He'll have £70 less to pay over to the taxman at that time.
