This year I’m having my new iUP iPhone delivered and sending the old one back using the mail-in kit because my local Apple Store didn’t have the phone I wanted available for pickup.

I was wondering if anyone here has done the iUP upgrade by mail before and would care to share your experience with it. I have heard many horror stories about AT&T Next customers having their phones lost when being returned... and it has me a little nervous about sending my phone back to Apple.

I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experiences with the iUP mail-in option.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Pretty easy last year. They send you a kit with instructions to reset the phone, box and sleeve for the phone. Drop off at Fedex and done.

Thanks for the help. That makes me feel a bit more comfortable with the process.

I’ve done it twice. Works perfectly. Follow instructions. Get receipt when handing it in. Good to go. You have a limited number of days to get it back so send it ASAP. Worked perfect for my wife and I.

Will be doing it again this time.

How many days do you have to send it back?

I think it was 14 days. Yep: https://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/iphoneupgrade_us/

2e:
"Prompt Return of Financed iPhone. If you exercise your Upgrade Option and do not return your original Financed iPhone as directed by Apple within 14 days, your original Installment Loan will be reinstated and you will be responsible for any missed and/or remaining installment payments, as well as any installment payments under your New Installment Loan."

super easy process and apple provides everything you need. Even a piece of tape to seal the box. I thought that was funny.
Last year by the time ours phones were processed we had made a 13th payment on the old phones. Later apple refunded that 13th payment for both our loans automatically.

I agree with the others, super easy process! Last year was the first year that I did it but it couldn't have been easier! Just make sure to write down the tracking number and you can keep an eye on it.

I assume that it has to be in the shipper's posession within the 14 days, not back in Apple's hands by then? That's how regular product returns work.

I'm actually not sure but I would think so. Hopefully someone knows because I would like to have at least a week with my new Max, to make sure that I love it before sending off my 8+.

Does the mail-in kit come packaged with the new iPhone, or does it ship separately?

I'm so glad to finally do the in-home IUP option.
Last year, I was on TMobile and we had to do the upgrade in the store unlike other carriers that had the option and there were all these server issues, which led to a huge headache of canceling my order in store redoing IUP, double charges that took a month to fix.

I'm on Verizon this year but my wife is still on TMobile and I'm glad that both had the mail option.

Dang. I hate that I have to drop mine off at Fedex. That's quite a drive, but they do have a fedex drop off box near me. Wonder if I'll be able to drop it in there.

Weird. Maybe it depends on your carrier? Mine's AT&T.

That is weird! Mine is AT&T too. I just remember my delivery driver giving me my trade in kit and remarking how light it was. And I was like...yeah, because it's just an empty box! Last year was the first year that I did the mail in trade in so I don't know.

hmmm, I've done it a couple years and got the regular box and a bag to put the phone in. I wrap it like crazy in bubble tape and send it back in the same box it came in. Maybe I'll get a kit this year. lol I want a kit!!!!!!!!! :D

Yeah, it was a box within the shipping box and it had a SIM removal kit, shipping label, and even a piece of tape! That amused me.

The return package has been in a separate package from the phone for me. It had me a little worried too because it came days after I got the phone this last time. (Fed Ex for me). Separate tracking number entirely.
