I was just wondering has anyone seen apple remove a sim card from a old iPhone to a new iPhone while upgrading to a iPhone?

My sister who lives in ohio upgrade her phone a while back and I think the apple store in Ohio remove the sim card from her old phone and put it in her new phone and she did not have to pay the activation for Version Wireless.

Then couple weeks later my Dad and I got a apple to upgrade his phone, they do not remove the sim card and verizon had us pay the $30 activation fee?

To me I think if you can get them to remove the sim card and put in a new phone then you carrier you will not have to pay the activation fee.

I think this would depend on the method of how they purchased the phone. Did she pay the phone outright? Usually if you choose iUP/AUP/Verizon DPP, those will require an activation from the start as when they input your dad's carrier info, and once it goes through and they scan the new phone, the SIM card inside will activate. In that case you can't switch SIM cards.

They both paid full price

It is strange since my sister paid full price and they swamp sim card- no activation fee
my dad paid full price they did not swamp sim card activation fee

That's because there was a new SIM in your dad's phone and when the phone was activated, the new SIM was activated and that creates the activation fee.

When my sister got her iPhone 10 it had a new sim in and they just switch the sim out when activating the new iPhone

If you activate the new SIM in the phone, you will get an activation fee. Just do a chat and ask them to waive. They do so for me every year.

That is interesting. Was this done as Apple.com online order pick up or purchased directly from the store? I ask this because if you purchase the carrier model from Apple.com for in store pick up and entered the carrier info and choose full price this may be the case why they would not swap out the Sim card.

Okay. That's weird. not sure why one store can just simply swap out the SIM card and the other store does it differently.
