My hotel doesnt have wireless but I was thinkmaybe I could tether my iPhone to my Macbook using the USB connection and then Share the internet connection to my Xbox and play Live over the 3g network.

I was able to get my Xbox to connect to the network I created on my Macbook however, my Xbox wouldn't pull the IP addy, gateway, subnet mask, Prime DNS server, of 2nd DNS server info automatically. So I set the IP, subnet, and gateway manually, however I dont figure out the DNS information.

I just got my MacBook so I am still learning about it, so I couldn't find and IPCONFIG (Windows) similar command to get all of the network information.

I think I need the DNS info of the 3g Network, but I am not sure.

Can anyone help?

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is an incredibly bad idea. The bandwidth Xbox Live uses will at some point while using it trigger a flag on your internet use by AT&T. They could do a number of things.

I would not recommend trying this at all.

what kind of bad things can they really do? I mean the contract says UNLIMITED they have no way of kow that I am not just streaming music all day, which I do. Its not like I am going from being a 500 meg a month users to a 3 or 4 gig, I alreayd use an average of 2 or more a month, just from stream Iheartradio...

I mean really what the worst they can do?

I'm not sure how different MACs are, but this WILL work on a PC, I've done it. However, I didn't try playing on XBL, just seemed pointless to me, seemed like it would be too laggy over 3G. I did this a few times when I first moved in to my new place and was waiting for my cable/Internet to be activated (which took a couple WEEKS since the previous tennant had a huge past due bill and it took forever to verify I was a new tennant). I would recover my gamertag at friends' houses to play Rock Band with them and still have access to my downloaded content and then tether when I got home just to get it back on my console.

I had the BenM tether "hack", and I just connected to my PC via USB and created a network connection that way, the ran the Ethernet from the 360 to my PCs Ethernet port, then went into the network connections and bridged the connections (by holding CTRL and clicking on each to highlight both, then right-clicking and selecting "bridge connections"). Then the 360 could access XBL via my phone's modem. Like I said though, never tried DLing anything or playing games because it just seemed like it would take forever/be laggy. However, if the hotel has Wi-Fi you might be better off, would be much faster. Although you could skip the phone tether altogether in that case and just bridge the laptop Wi-Fi connection with the 360

Actually xbox live doesn't use that much data. Only way AT&T will know is of he plays for several hours...

If you can get your iPhone to tether with your computer. Once u have that done.. Go into settings. I think theirs a network tab. Or sumwhere in their theirs options to tether internet thru the airport wireless or thru cord..

thats what i did at first and that didnt work. I had to amnual set me ip address, subnet, and gateway, this was easy becuase the info was readily available. And then I could connect to the "network" but not to the internet. I noticed that the DNS srever fields were blank, so I am think I need the DNS information from ATT to be able to connect.

But I cant seem to find that info on the internet.

I know on a PC, you can open CMD window and type ipconfig and it will show all network setting, including DNS server information...but I dont know how to do that on my MAc...

Trust me your latency and ping rates will be so high it will be a lagfest. You will drop out of games or piss everyone off in an endless buffer of the gamer.

if your iphone is Jailbroken then MyWi supports tethering to xbox 360 through an xbox wireless adapter. Just connect to the wireless network made by MyWi and it is fine. I have done this 3 or 4 times and i always get 2-4 bars on MW2

You can get all the DNS information in your settings>network setting and then click on the device that is connecting your computer to the internet.

There you can write down or reference all the DNS info.

Next you'll have to go to Settings>Sharing and then turn on internet sharing from your internet source.

I've tried to share internet from Wifi to ethernet on an Xbox 360 and there is a lot of fine tuning with the dns stuff that needs to be done, but I'm sure you will eventually get it right. Some googling ought to serve you well. Granted not for 3G sharing, but just do the same thing as if it was Wifi.

As for the idea of it... I'm not sure it's worth while... Latency will not be very good.
