So I've been pretty adamant about NOT getting an iPad. I just haven't been able to see a use for it...

But DANG IT Steve Jobs!!! I want one!

Here's the deal: I have an iPhone, I have an iMac, I have a Macbook Pro (dead battery... Like really dead), and I have a slow EeePC netbook.

Is there anything the iPad can do that I can't do already? Besides fulfill my desire to spend $500 bucks in a matter of a few clicks of my mouse. ;)

What do other iPhone users use their iPads for? Anyone have some creative ideas?

IMO why not sell you MBP and use the money to buy an iPad? With all your other Apple goodies it does seem like overkill.

Hmm... You know... That's a really good idea, haha. I never even thought about that. I have a work laptop for work and now that I'm not in school I don't know what I'd use my MBP for really.

I guess I use it for EyeTV in my bedroom, but I can probably figure something else out there.

like a tv?;)

The iPad is unique. I have a MP, two MBPs, and an iPhone. Sure the iPad duplicates some of the functionality of each of those devices, but I don't use the iPad in the same way. There are times a MBP is overkill and an iPhone screen too small to be really productive.

I find the iPad extremely useful as far as quick easy internet browsing and game consuls etc. Yes your iPhone does very similar things but the iPad does them so much better and it feels and looks so much better. The display on the iPad is a lot better than the iPhone and you really notice going back and forth between the 2. Hope this helped a little.

I've been reaching for my iPad to surf the web or send an email instead of going to my iMac. Right now, Ive split my device usage to about 70% iPad and 30% iMac, and those numbers themselves are testaments to the merits of the iPad. It's a wonderful experience, and it's really a shame that someone would miss out on it.

Haha, yea well... I just looked on eBay and the same model as my laptop is only going for about $500-$600... I guess I'm better off just keeping it even just to use it as a TV with DVR because it plays web video too.

Good suggestion though.

I guess I see that you would probably use it for different things. Like I have Zinio and I'd probably read my Popular Science from the iPad instead of my phone. :) Google Reader too... Thanks for the suggestions! I think it's working. :) Haha.

+1

Also...get the MyWi app to turn you iPhone into a hotspot and surf till your eyes fall out of our head.

I'm probably going to get an EVO 4G when it comes out. Especially if I end up with an iPad. :)

I almost feel like I should wait until the next revision, but I can't even think about what they would actually add... I mean, there are a lot of things I think would be good (USB support) but nothing that I see Apple actually adding.

I can guarantee you won't use your iPhone for Zinio ever again if you get an iPad. :)

Fair enough, Haha. The iPad screenshots of Zinio looked really good. Anyone know how easy it is to compile your own eBook for iBooks? Like if I have a text file I want to turn into a book to read on the go?

Dump the netbook and get the iPad; that's what I would do.

Selling the MacBook Pro sounds like a bad idea because then you lose a good laptop computer (for when the iPad is not enough); probably should get a new battery.

The iPad will replace a lot the things you probably would have been doing on the iPhone previously. Thus the iPhone might actually last through the day. ;)

New battery is $179... So that's kinda pricey. I use the netbook more than the laptop to be honest. I have my work laptop for when I need to really work on the go. Other than that, the netbook and the MacbookPro do about the same thing.

I wouldn't get much for the netbook anyway. I bought it as a refurb for less than $200. :)

I don't know what to say about that then; if funds are tight, don't get the iPad; it will just add more unnecessary expenses.

Well I don't really use my MBP portably so it doesn't really need a new battery. I'll get one if I change my mind. I'd rather put the 180 towards an iPad than a new battery for a laptop that's going to sit in my apartment plugged in.

*browses through thread*

i think you have your excuse...

...just call it 'peer pressure' and be done with it...

...go on - you know you want to...

;)

Stop fighting it lol.

I have a mac pro at work, 24" iMac and 13" MBP at home and an iPhone. Still have lots of love left for my iPad.

Just think: all the time that you're wasting trying to figure out if you want one or not, you could be surfing on and playing with your brand new iPad

Haha. This has been a very entertaining thread... I may just end up with one by the end of the week! :D Are they hard to find in stores still? I think I'll be looking for the 16GB Wifi model. My 8GB iPhone isn't even full (I stream my music with Simplify Media) and I can just Wifi tether to get 3G on it.

DANGIT STEVE JOBS!!

me too pretty sure that iPad is going to be skipped this time because i already have iPhone 3GS, Macbook Pro 17" Unibody with SSD, Macbook Air rev B with SSD, Mac Mini Core 2 Duo 1.8ghz as a media center.

once again i say, DANGIT STEVE JOBS!!.

bought 32GB for me, and 2 of 16GB for my dad and my wife, all models are WiFi only. man, it's sure worth it! :D:D:D
my macbook air is collecting the dust, almost never touched it since i got the iPad.
