Don't get me wrong the iPhone is one of the best gadgets out there but it's the price that gets me, the 3GS costs (in America) $199 which is £130 but in the UK it costs £450 which is the equivalent of $700 . Why is it so expensive? Shipping doesn't cost $500 or £330! Can someone please tell me why it is so expensive?!

Your quoting the pay and go price.

Your quoting the pay and go price.

Exactly. To get the $199 price you have to sign up for a 2 year AT&T plan.

So by "pay and go" are you talking about what AT&T calls their "no commitment pricing?"

Because if so, that costs $599 in America. So, OP, you're comparing 2 totally different things. You have to compare the $599 iPhone to your $700 conversion. That's a $100 difference and, as I understand it, there are all sorts of import taxes you pay to get foreign electronics into your country. So that'd be the reason why.

you're not exactly showing the rest of us in a good light..

next time... think first

obviously youve got confused there, but remember everything is cheaper in the USA, we have 17.5% VAT to pay over here :(

And our UK ones are (or can cheaply be) unlocked. Great for travellers. Wouldn't be surprised if UK phones were being purchased for use in US.

It costs £89 plus £35 a month contract for 2 years. Or about $130 + $50 a month for 2 years.

In the US Apple can sell the contract phone, here for some reason they can only sell Pay as you go in their stores, you have to go to O2 for the contract phone.

Basically the UK is currently one of the cheapest countries to buy an iPhone anywhere.
